Cultural and Natural history of our region
A story has a beginning, a middle, and an end. A story starts somewhere, sometime, someplace…it rolls along…and then it winds to a close. Every story is different, but they all have this shape. Your story can be told as an oral story, it can have photographs or video to enhance it. When we get the story organised, it becomes a thing in its own right.
We’ll talk about those two aspects of your story…(1) the story itself and (2) the labels on the outside of the box.
You can think of the story as fitting into a sort of storage box. On the outside of the box we can put a label that tells a people what the story is about, when it happened, where it took place, and so forth.
The idea is we can enrich our lives, our experience of this place, by sharing the different ways that we know it. In other words, we can share our stories.
For people who live locally this means getting to know new aspects of what we once thought was familiar.
For visitors, this is an opportunity to dive into the history and significance of our region. To find that it is not such a stranger after all…and to grow new branches of connection and memory into this place.
There’s no cost. And you have the option of giving permission on how your stories can be used.
The next step is up to you. Generally speaking, we want to connect each story with a specific place, like a dot on the map. So have a think about the stories you’d like to share, and how you can do that.
There’s no limit to how many stories you contribute.
There’s no limit to how many different stories we can tell about the same place.
We’ll create any rules as we go along!
Want someone to come and walk through each step with you? Request assistance.
